I have arrived. Or at least arrived in Sudan. I still have one journey left to Yambio - which I will take tomorrow morning. I am very much looking forward to getting there, getting started with work - and unpacking my suitcase.
The flight to Juba was good, but I missed much of it since I was sleeping. Got to see some nice views as we were descending on Juba though. It is very green here, beuatiful. Arriving at the airport was very different from my other Sudan experiences. Immigration was easy, got my luggage - and was met my a local staff (Mussa).
Not sure what to say about Juba, mostly because I have seen so little. But there are lots of NGOs/UN... Lots! And prices are crazy high. Mussa told me Yambio would be much cheaper, cooler and have more fruit and vegetables. So I am hoping he is right! :)
Right now I am at the UN OCHA, using internet for NGOs. Sitting in an air conditioned container full of people. I guess I won't experience air conditioning in a while, so I am enjoying it.
Wish I could upload some pictures, but my few hours in Juba have mostly been spent sleeping - since I did only get about 2 hours of sleep last night (travel nerves I guess). I am staying at a guesthouse run by Eritreans, so will eat dinner there soon too (good food!).
Not sure when I will be able to update you next time. But I will try - hopefully even with some photos! Or perhaps I am promising too much... ;)
My new cell number is +256 477 292109
Please feel free to call/text.
